Wedges are not as purely feminine as a thin-heeled shoe, but with all the bows, satin material, ribbons and other girlie trappings; the sandal wedge quite makes up for its clunkier heel.

TRY SOME SUMMER WEDGES
Wedges are still available in dressy styles, but they’re not in their hey-day of a few seasons back, thus not as available or widely worn as their summer cousins. Work wedges are still popular, especially because of their comfy qualities, but again, they aren’t the rage they once were.

So, I say: go ahead and wear your dressy wedges at night, but it might be more fun (and trendy) to rack up your credit card on some summer sandal wedgie fun.

VERSATILE
The summer wedge is also infinitely more versatile and potentially sexier than the de rigueur flip flops. Wedges can be worn with everything from summer dresses to capri pants/jeans to pretty minis to pretty maxis (knee length or longer) to shorts (including the new Bermuda length shorts) and more. Wedges are best showcased with a bit of leg, so avoid wearing them with pants or skirts that hit the ankle.

Some of the summer wedges have oh-so-cute ribbons that wrap around the ankle. The only problem with this style is that it’s a tease for those ladies with more voluptuous ankles. If you’re one of these gals, look for wedges that have no straps, ribbons etc. in the ankle area. This is also true for those with length-challenged legs: anything around the ankle shortens the leg and widens the ankle so some wedge heels can exaggerate both of these features.

THEY'RE EVERYWHERE
I’ve seen wedges popping up all over the place in stores and magazines. Town shoes has a great selection, as does 9West, Aldo (just had to buy a pair of cork-heeled beige wedges), Steve Madden, Bebe, Dior, Guess, and BCBG Girls.
